The library regularly collects feedback on our services through a variety of sources (comments forms, online feedback forms, e-mails, programme committees and letters). This is a summary of your views for the above period, with our comments. Please note that all the comments we received are carefully considered and action taken where appropriate, but we only provide a formal response where we have received two or more comments on a particular subject.
| Your comment: | Our response: | Number of comments: |
|---|---|---|
| Library staff are friendly, helpful and responsive | Again, as in previous terms, we're pleased that the support we're providing is meeting your needs. | 26 comments |
| Some customers found the temperature in some libraries unsatisfactory (both too hot and too cold) | We continue to report temperature problems to colleagues
in Property Management who make every effort to improve the situation.
The situation is complicated by the fact that it can be difficult to
find a temperature that suits everyone. We'd encourage customers to talk to Library staff as there are sometimes other warmer/cooler areas available and also because it's important for us to know exactly which areas you find too hot or cold and when. |

| Various comments requesting longer opening hours | We're pleased to report that large numbers of customers are making use of the extended opening hours in the All Saints library. In the present financial climate, however, it is unlikely that we'll be able to extend hours generally. | 4 comments |
| The Library is too noisy | As many of you will know, we have introduced zones for quiet, silent and group work in all our libraries so that customers can choose to work in the area which most suits their needs. We also have zones for phone use. Noise patrols are regularly undertaken and staff do all they can to minimise disruption to those studying. The Library rules and regulations authorise sanctions for disruptive behaviour so if you are being disturbed, please do not hesitate to contact a member of Library staff. | 3 comments |
| Book allocations should be increased for both final year and postgraduate students | The loan allowance for students on taught post graduate
programmes has been increased to 12. We're keeping a watchful
eye on the impact of this and may consider increasing allocations
for other student groups in future. Do remember that in addition
to the allocation of 10 or 12 books students are also able to borrow
3 short loan items, 3 DVDs/videos and 10 other audio visual items. The Library also has a wide range of electronic books (and journals). These are available 24/7 and don't, of course, count towards your loan allocation. |

| There are not enough books in the Library | We continue to make as wide a range of books available
as our budget allows, including a large number of electronic books.
As mentioned above, there is a wide range of material available in
the journal collection, most of which is available online both on and
off campus. Library staff are very happy to provide help
in accessing online material. All comments about the book stock have been forwarded to the relevant subject librarians. |

| The photocopying system is unreliable
|
We have recently experienced some difficulties with the GPAS system (which controls access to photocopiers) and this has on occasions resulted in photocopiers being out of service (usually for fairly short periods). We apologise for the inconvenience caused, but are pleased to report that significant modifications have been made to the system and we are hoping that it will be more reliable in future. | 3 comments
