Anatomy.tv

Available within MMU and outside MMU (login required)

Subject coverage: physiotherapy, speech pathology and therapy, nursing, occupational therapy.
Data retrieved: 3D models of human anatomy. Models can be rotated and layers of anatomical detail added or removed.
Access notes: Access is restricted to 20 concurrent users. If you are unable to login immediately, try again later.

To login to Anatomy.tv, please follow these steps:

  1. Follow the link to UK Institution Shibboleth Login.
  2. Select Manchester Metropolitan University from the drop-down list of institutions.
  3. Click on GO.
  4. You will be redirected to the MMU Login Page where you may input your MMU network username and password.

Please note: MMU physiotherapy students should use the Interactive Spine module and are not recommended to use the module Interactive Spine - Chiropractic Edition. Other students should check with their tutors before using Interactive Spine - Chiropractic Edition.

MedKnow Publications

A collection of 20 Open Access journals in the fields of biology and medical sciences. Most are included in standard abstracting and indexing services such as AMED, CAB and Index Medicus. Date coverage varies but the oldest title, Journal of Postgraduate Medicine, dates back to 1980.

RECAL Legacy Database

Available within MMU and outside MMU (no login required)

Subject coverage: prosthetics, orthotics, relevant related rehabilitation engineering, biomechanics, anatomy of the musculoskeletal system, seating and wheelchairs. The RECAL Information Service closed at the end of 2007 and the database compiled to that date has been made freely available on the Centre's website. It stands as a unique resource of the published literature in this area and contains over 83,000 bibliographic records.

Science Citation Index

Subject coverage: The Sciences.
Date range: 1981-
Data retrieved: Searchable author abstracts. It indexes more than 5,700 major journals across 164 scientific disciplines, covering approximately 2,100 more journals than its SCI print and CD-ROM counterparts, with all cited references captured.
Access notes: Science Citation Index is accessed via Web of Knowledge.

Subject coverage: Abstract and citation database covering over 15,000 peer-reviewed titles from more than 4,000 international publishers in the sciences and social sciences

Data retrieved: bibliographic references, websites, links to full-text where available.
Access notes: The Download Document function is available on-campus only.

To log into Scopus:

  1. Click the Login link on the top-right hand corner of the page.
  2. In the box that appears, click the Athens / Other Institution login link at the bottom.
  3. Select UK Access Management Federation from the drop down menu on the left.
  4. Then click on Manchester Metropolitan University in the list of institutions that appears on the right.
  5. Users are then taken to the MMU login page where they can enter their details as normal.

SPORTDiscus

Subject coverage: Sport: recreation, exercise physiology, sports medicine, coaching, physical fitness, the psychology, history and sociology of sport, training,and conditioning.
Date range: 1800-
Data retrieved: Seventy percent of the database consists of periodical articles.
Access notes: There are limits to the numbers of people who can use this service at any one time. If you are denied access, it may be that the maximum number has been reached. Try again in 15 minutes or so.

Access Notes: In addition to searching the database, ZETOC allows you to set up an individualised Table of Contents alerting service. Select up to 50 individual journal titles and you will be notified via e-mail of the contents of new issues as they become available.
Basic keyword searches can also be saved in order to be alerted to new articles on particular topics.
A document delivery service is available. This allows you to order articles for delivery direct to your mailing address. You will be responsible for payment and will be required to submit personal details, including your credit card number, over the web. Please note that this is a much more expensive service than the Library's Interlibrary Loan service
To use the Alert services both on- and off-campus, this resource requires a login.
