Use of this database is subject to the following terms and conditions of use, to which you agreed in writing when you registered for an ATHENS ID and password. Failure to comply is a serious offence: the University reserves its right to take legal action against individuals who cause it to be involved in legal proceedings as a result of violation of the Agreements.

CHEST Copyright Datasets Terms of Use

For each dataset available through BIDS, EDINA and MIMAS, the Vendor/Licensor remains the sole and exclusive owner of all rights to the data. The data in the Datasets made available through BIDS, EDINA and MIMAS may be used by an employee, student or any other person properly authorised by a Licensee (an Institution which has taken out a licence to use the service), subject to the following conditions:

Each such person must have read and signed the Copyright and Terms of Use Acknowledgement before being given means of access to the data.

  1. Use of the data is restricted to the following purposes: teaching; research; personal educational development; administration and management of the business of the Licensee's organisation; and development work associated with any of the aforementioned.
  2. Use of the data is not permitted without the prior agreement of the Vendor/Licensor for consultancy or services leading to commercial exploitation of the data nor for work of direct benefit to the employer of students on industrial placement or part-time courses.
  3. Users may print, or download and store, full or partial results of searches of the data for their own personal use; and distribute to others within their institution, in print form, up to 30 copies of individual items, but only for the purposes permitted, as stated above.
  4. Users must comply with the provisions of United Kingdom law relating to the misuse of computing facilities, and shall not deliberately impair or undermine the usability or performance of computing facilities, the communication network or stored information. Users are required to take all reasonable precautions to maintain integrity of passwords and any other security measures.
